Repositioning the front door
Tinkercad already had extraordinary reach as a free consumer product. The opportunity was to make that reach useful in schools: position Tinkercad as the classroom entry point into a lifetime of design and making, then make it work for institutional adoption as well as individual discovery.
That required more than a campaign. The brand, website, acquisition path, product narrative, and classroom workflows had to tell the same story.
Design for the classroom system
The relaunch began with new positioning and identity, carried through an external RFP and a cross-functional rollout. Underlying product work supported class creation, student signup, teacher onboarding, administration, assignments, and grading—the unglamorous systems that determine whether a tool can move from one curious learner to an entire district.
The shift was from a useful 3D-design app to Autodesk's global K-12 pathway: a place where students could begin with accessible tools and grow toward the industry's professional software.

Launch a global pathway
We launched to education audiences at ISTE in June 2022. Tinkercad added 20 million learners and helped drive more than 100% year-over-year growth across a community of more than 100 million users. The public site remains intact years later.
